Departments and locations

Add the teams you hire for and the places people work, so candidates can filter jobs and Google for Jobs knows where each job is.

How-to guide2 min read

Departments and locations are shared by all your jobs. Add each once, then choose them on each job. Admins and recruiters can change them.

Departments

A department is the team a job belongs to, such as Guiding, Bookings or Gear shops. Candidates filter by department on your career pages.

  1. Open Departments and choose New department.
  2. Give it a name in your main language. To name it in another language, choose that language in the switch at the top of the page and edit it there. Without a name in a language, the main name shows.

Drag departments by their handle to put them in the order candidates see in your career pages' filters.

Locations

A location is where people work, such as the Oslo shop, the Berlin shop or the Lofoten base. A job can be at several.

  1. Open Locations and choose New location.
  2. Fill in the Name, such as Oslo shop, and the address: Street, Postcode, Town or city, Region and Country. The country's flag shows in lists.
  3. Under Usually, choose how people usually work there: on site, hybrid or remote. Each job can say otherwise.
  4. Choose Add location.

The address goes into each job's JobPosting data, which Google needs to list the job in its job search, so write the full street address where you can. Fully remote jobs don't need a location.

Groups

Locations sit together by town or city, so the Berlin shops appear under Berlin. To group them another way, such as every shop in London or all the bases in Lofoten, type a name under Group in the location. Drag a place by its handle to change its order, or into another group's card to move it into that group. Your career pages and the job's location picker follow the same order. On a job, Choose all picks every location in a group at once. Group names are only for your team: candidates and Google still see each location.

Removing one

Use Move to the bin in the row's menu. A department or location can only go to the bin when no open job uses it; closed jobs keep showing it. Restore it from the bin if you need it again.
