Compare and restore versions

See how a page looked in any earlier version next to your draft, on the real website, check what changed, and bring a version back.

How-to guide2 min read

Every publish, promotion and rollback keeps a version of the page. You can compare any of them with your draft and restore one if a change went wrong.

Open the version history

In the page editor, open the arrow next to Publish and choose Version history. Each version shows its number, what happened (published, promoted, rolled back) and when, or the note added when it was published.

Compare side by side

Choose Compare next to a version.

  • Side by side shows the page as it looked in that version on the left and your draft on the right, both on the real website with your real blocks. Each side has its own device switch, so you can compare the phone layout too.
  • What changed lists every field and block that differs, including the search title and description, which do not show on the page itself. Each line says whether something was added, changed or removed.

The left side may show your draft for a moment while the older version loads. Shared sections and entries without a page show only the list of changes.

Restore a version

Choose All versions, then Restore next to the version you want. The page's draft becomes that version, and you publish it as usual. Restoring adds a new version rather than removing any, so you can always go back again.

How far back you can go

On the Starter plan the history shows the last 30 days, and on Growth the last 365 days. Enterprise shows everything. Older versions are not deleted: they are kept and shown again after an owner upgrades under Billing in Orbit. The page's current version is always listed, however long ago it was published, so you can compare with it and restore it. A note at the end of the list says when older versions are hidden.

Restoring needs the permission to go back to an earlier version, which editors and the roles above them have by default. See Roles and permissions. Every restore is recorded in the audit trail.
