Get started
Your first page, from draft to live
Create a page, add blocks, preview it on every device and put it live, in about ten minutes.
Tutorial2 min read
By the end of this tutorial you will have made a page, filled it with blocks, checked it in the live preview and published it. Use a page called TEMP practice so nobody mistakes it for real content, and delete it at the end.
Before you start
Check the scope in the top bar, for example Staging / Germany / de-DE. Everything you do happens in that environment, region and language. Practise in Staging, where nothing reaches the public website.
1Create the page
- In the sidebar, open Content › Pages.
- Choose New page.
- Name it TEMP practice. The address is made from the name, so it becomes
/temp-practice. - Leave the folder empty and create it.
The editor opens. On the left is the list of blocks, in the middle the live preview, and on the right the fields of whatever you have selected.

2Add blocks
- Choose Add component and pick Hero.
- With the hero selected, type a heading in the panel on the right. The preview updates as you type.
- Add a Rich text block under it and write a sentence or two.
- Drag a block by its handle to move it, or use Undo (⌘Z) if something goes wrong.
These components come with the Starter template. A space made from the Blank template starts with no components, so someone with access to Schema adds them first.
Your work saves by itself a moment after you stop typing. The status in the top bar shows Draft until the page is live.
3Preview it
Use the device buttons above the preview to see the page on desktop, tablet and mobile. Open in a new tab shows it full size, and Copy a link to share gives you a link someone without a CMS account can open.
4Publish
- Choose Publish in the top right.
- The publish check lists what changed and anything that stops it going live, such as an image without alt text.
- Confirm. The status turns to Live.
Note
Some content types need approval first. Then the button says Submit for review instead. See Send a page for review.
5Tidy up
Open the arrow next to Publish and choose Unpublish, then delete the page with the bin icon. Deleted pages go to the bin, where they can be restored.
Where next
- Edit a page covers blocks, fields and the preview in more depth.
- How CMS Orbit is organised explains environments, regions and languages.
