Create a space
Add a new website to your organisation, choose what it starts with, and get it ready for its first page.

A space is one website or project, with its own content types, components, pages, media and menus. Administrators and Owners can create spaces. If you cannot, ask one of them.
Create it
Every new website is set up with a short wizard that creates everything it needs in one go. When an organisation has no spaces yet, it opens on its own. Later, choose Add space on the space list, or New space in the menu at the top of the sidebar.
- Website: its name, an optional logo, and whether it starts from Starter or Blank.
- Environments: Staging, Production or both.
- Regions and languages: which of your organisation's regions the website serves, and the languages for each. The first language is the default; choose Make default to change it, and Add a language to search the list. Regions come from your organisation in Bifröst Orbit; if there are none yet, the wizard links there to add one.
- Address: optionally, the website's address, used for previews.
Choose Create website and the website opens in Staging, ready for its first page.
What your plan allows
Your plan sets how many websites and regions your organisation can have, and how many environments each website can have. The space list shows how many websites you use, such as "1 of 5 websites on your Growth plan". When the plan is full, Add space is switched off with the reason, and an owner can upgrade under Billing in Orbit. In the wizard, regions the organisation already uses are free to add again; once no new regions are left, the others are switched off.
Starter or Blank
| Start from | What you get |
|---|---|
| Starter | The built-in components and content types, so pages can be written immediately. |
| Blank | Only the Page content type. Add your own components and other types before anyone writes pages. |
Choose Starter unless a developer is building the components for this website. Landing pages, popups and banners under Marketing are set up in both.
To copy the setup of a space you already have, duplicate it instead, or import an export into a new space.
Before the first page
A new space has no regions or languages yet, so Pages asks for them first. Someone with the Developer role or above adds a region and at least one locale under Configuration › Environments. If the organisation has a Default locale in its settings, each new region starts with it. See How CMS Orbit is organised for how environments, regions and languages fit together.
Then give people access under Configuration › Access, and check the space's settings.
