A product is something you sell, such as the Fjell GTX boot. Each product has one or more variants: the versions a shopper chooses between, such as size 42 in brown. Editors and Admins can add and change products; everyone can see them under Products.

Find a product

Products lists your products, the most recently changed first. Search by name, SKU, MAM part number or tag, and filter by status, tag, vendor, where the product came from (Commerce Orbit or MAM), or by Low stock (1 to 3 left) and Out of stock.

Status

Draft
What it means
Only your team sees it. New products start as drafts.
Active
What it means
For sale: on the hosted shop, in the storefront API and in CMS Orbit's product picker.
Archived
What it means
No longer for sale, but kept with its orders.

A product that becomes active, changes while active or stops being active tells CMS Orbit, so website pages showing it refresh. See Show your products on your website.

Options and variants

Options are what a shopper picks, such as Size and Colour. A product has up to 3 options and up to 100 variants, one for each combination you sell. A product with no options has one variant, called Default.

Each variant has:

  • SKU: your stock code, such as FJELL-GTX-42-BRN. A SKU can only be used once in your shop. If you leave it empty and the variant has a MAM part number, the part number is used.
  • Barcode, such as an EAN, and weight in grams
  • Price, in your main currency, and a price in each of your other currencies if you sell in them. See Languages and currencies.
  • Compare-at price: the earlier price, shown struck through. It must be higher than the price.
  • Cost: what the item costs you. Shoppers never see it.
  • Track stock and Sell when out of stock, and the stock at each location. See Stock and locations.
  • MAM part number, up to 28 characters, when you use MAM. See The MAM integration.

Two variants can't have the same options, and every variant needs a value for every option.

Text, images and details

  • Title and summary, and a description with headings, lists and links
  • Images: up to 40, picked from Media, each with a description for people who can't see it. The first image is the one shown in lists, carts and emails. You can change them in the Orbit app too, with photos from your phone (see Commerce Orbit in the Orbit app).
  • Specifications: up to 40 pairs such as Weight and 1.2 kg, or Waterproofing and Gore-Tex, shown as a table on the product page
  • Vendor, product type and tags, such as Northwilds, Boots and winter. Collections can use them in rules, and the storefront API can filter by tag.
  • SEO title and SEO description for search engines. When empty, the title and summary are used.
  • Tax class: Standard, Reduced or Zero. See Shipping and taxes.
  • Address: the end of the product's link, such as fjell-gtx-boot. It is made from the title; change it if you like.

Bundles, downloads and subscriptions

  • A bundle sells several products as one, such as a tent, a mat and a sleeping bag. Its stock comes from the products in it.
  • A variant sold as a download has files instead of stock, and nothing is posted.
  • A variant with subscription plans can be bought again every week, month or year.

See Bundles and downloads and Subscriptions.

Custom fields

Fields your organisation adds, such as Fabric or Care guide, show under Custom fields on the product. See Custom fields.

Translations

For each extra language in your settings, you can translate the title, summary, description and SEO text. Anything not translated shows in your main language. See Languages and currencies.

Duplicate a product

Duplicate makes a draft copy called "(copy)", with the same text, options and prices. SKUs get -COPY at the end and stock starts empty, so change them before you publish.

Products from MAM

Products imported from MAM show where they came from, start as drafts and are tagged from-mam. Add photos, text and the right status before you sell them. While MAM is on, it sets their stock, and their prices if you chose that. See The MAM integration.

Remove a product

Move to bin takes a product off sale and puts it in the bin, where it can be restored as a draft. Past orders keep their lines as they were. If you only want to stop selling it, archive it instead.
