Languages and currencies
Sell in several languages and currencies, with your own price in each currency rather than a conversion, and translations of products, collections and emails.
How-to guide3 min read
Choose the languages and currencies you sell in under Settings. The first of each is your main one. Only Admins can change them.
Currencies
Selling in more than one currency is in the Growth and Enterprise plans. See Plans and the trial.
Commerce Orbit sells in EUR, NOK, SEK, DKK, GBP, USD, CHF, ISK, PLN, CZK, JPY, AUD, CAD and NZD.
Every price is set by you. Commerce Orbit never converts a price with an exchange rate, so the amount a shopper pays is always one you chose, such as €279 and 3,290 kr for the Storm shell jacket.
- Main currency: every variant has a price in it.
- Other currencies: give each variant a price in them on the product. A variant without a price in a currency can't be bought in that currency: the cart says "Storm shell jacket has no price in SEK". Add the missing price, or the shopper can switch currency.
The shopper chooses the currency on the hosted shop, and websites pass it to the storefront API. An order is placed, charged through Stripe and refunded in the currency of its cart. Overview and Reports show sales in each currency separately.
What only works in the main currency
Some settings use your main currency only:
| Setting | In other currencies |
|---|---|
| Compare-at prices | Not shown. |
| Free over on a shipping rate | The rate's normal price applies. Give the rate a price in each currency. |
| Fixed prices on a price list | The variant's normal price in that currency applies. Percentage price lists work in every currency. |
| Prices from MAM | MAM sets the main currency price; other currencies keep yours. A company linked to MAM gets its account price only on orders in the main currency. |
A fixed amount discount code works in the one currency you choose for it; a percentage works in every currency. See Discount codes.
Languages
Commerce Orbit offers English, Norwegian (Bokmål and Nynorsk), Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Polish.
For each language besides your main one you can translate:
- a product's title, summary, description, SEO title and SEO description. See Products.
- a collection's title and description. See Collections.
- every email to customers. See Emails to customers.
Anything not translated shows in your main language. Options, variants, specifications and tags aren't translated: use words that work in all your languages, or your main language.
The hosted shop's own words, such as Add to cart and the checkout, come in English, Norwegian and German. In other languages they show in English, while your product text shows in the shopper's language.
Which language a shopper gets
- Hosted shop: the shopper picks a language, and the address carries it, such as
?locale=nb. - Your website: pages in CMS Orbit pass their own language; developers pass
localeto the storefront API. - Emails: each order remembers the language it was placed in, and every email about it uses that language, with dates and amounts written the way that language writes them.
A language you don't offer falls back to your main language.
To open the hosted shop in a country's own currency and language, on an address such as shop.northwilds.no, make a market. See Markets and their own addresses.
