Alerts

Get a notification in the Orbit bell when visits fall or rise sharply, or a goal stops being completed, which often means a broken form.

How-to guide2 min read

An alert puts a notification in the Orbit bell of the people you choose when something unusual happens on a site, with the numbers and a link to the site. Alerts come with every plan.

Suggested alerts

Every new site gets two alerts for every Admin:

  • Visits fell by more than 50%, against the same weekday last week
  • No goal completed for 24 hours, after goals were completed in the week before. That often means a form, a checkout or the script stopped working.

For a site without alerts, select Add the suggested alerts under Alerts.

Add an alert

  1. Open Alerts under Notifications and select New alert.
  2. Choose the site and what to be told about:
    • Visits fall against the same weekday, by more than a share you choose
    • Visits rise against the same weekday, for a campaign or a mention that brings many visitors
    • A goal stops being completed, for any goal or one goal, for 6 hours to a week
  3. Choose who to tell: Every Admin, the people you tick, or both. Only people with Insights Orbit in your organisation can be chosen.
  4. Select Add alert.

Editors and Admins can add, change and delete alerts. Deleted alerts go to the bin.

When alerts are checked

Insights Orbit checks every alert once an hour.

  • Visits alerts compare today, from midnight in the site's time zone to the last full hour, with the same hours on the same weekday a week before. They start at 03:00 in the site's time zone and wait until there were at least 30 visits to compare with, so a quiet morning doesn't raise one. Each tells people at most once a day.
  • Goal alerts look at the last 6 hours to a week, as you chose, and only count when the goal was completed in the week before that. Each tells people once, and again only after the goal was completed in between.
