Label buttons and links
Click a button or link on your live website and name it, so its clicks are counted as an event without any code.

A label is a name for a button or link on your website, such as Book a demo clicked. Once it is labelled, each click on it is counted as an event with that name, which you can use in goals, funnels and dashboards. No code and no release are needed. Labels come with the Growth plan.
Label an element
- Open the site, then Labels, and select Open labelling mode.
- Choose the address and the page to start on, then Open the website. Your website opens in a new tab with a small panel in the corner.
- Point at a button or link: it is outlined. Click it.
- Give it a name people will understand, and choose where its clicks count: On this page only, On pages starting with an address, or On every page, such as a button in the header.
- Select Save label. Clicks are counted from then on, not before.
Select Browse the site to use the page normally and move to another page; links keep labelling mode on. Select Finish when you are done. The tab stays in labelling mode for 30 minutes, and your own clicks there are not counted.
Editors and Admins can label. Only your website's own addresses can be labelled.
Keep labels working
A label finds its element again by its data-insights name, its id, its link address or its place on the page, in that order. When the website changes, a label can stop finding its element. Labels then shows how long it has been without a click, and Events warns after a week. Open labelling mode and label the element again, then delete the old label.
Ask your developers to add a data-insights name to important buttons, such as data-insights="demo-button". Such a name survives redesigns.
Change or delete a label
Under Labels, select Edit to rename a label or change where it counts. Renaming starts counting under the new name; earlier clicks keep the old one. Delete moves the label to the bin, and its clicks stop being counted until it is restored.
