Get started with Insights Orbit
What Insights Orbit shows, how to get in, and the first things to set up so your team sees how your websites do.
Tutorial2 min read
Insights Orbit shows how people use your organisation's websites and apps: how many came, where they came from, which pages they read and whether they did what you hoped, such as booking a trip or signing up for the newsletter. It counts without cookies, and every screen answers its question in a plain sentence before the chart.
Get in
You open Insights Orbit from Orbit, with the same sign-in. Your organisation gives you access under Members in Orbit. If you don't see Insights Orbit there, ask an owner or admin of your organisation.
What you can do depends on your role: Viewers read every report, Editors also set up goals, funnels, dashboards and alerts, and Admins also add sites and change settings. See Who can do what.
Find your way
- Sites lists every website and app your organisation follows, with its visitors over the last 7 days and whether visits are arriving. It also shows this month's events against your plan.
- Choose a site to see its reports in the sidebar: Overview, Pages, Sources, Places, Devices, Events, Goals, Funnels, Journeys and Retention. Install, Labels and Site settings are below them, under Site.
- The menu at the top of the sidebar switches between sites and organisations.
- Dashboards and Segments are under Workspace, Summary emails and Alerts under Notifications, and AI assistants under Developers, for all your sites at once.
- Get help, the lifebuoy at the top, or the
?key, opens help for the screen you are on.
Your first hour
- Add your website: An Admin adds it under Sites, or follows it from CMS Orbit in one step. See Add your first site.
- Put the script on it: A developer adds one line to the website, or one component with the CMS Orbit SDK. Install turns green when the first visit arrives.
- Read the overview: It answers how many people came, from where, to which pages, and what changed. See Read the overview.
- Say what success is: Add a goal for what matters most, such as reaching the booking confirmation page for the Lofoten ski touring week. See Set up goals.
- Keep up without logging in: Send your team a weekly summary email, and let alerts tell you when visits fall or a form stops working.
Before you go live
- Read How visits are counted without cookies and mention Insights Orbit in your privacy notice. See What to write in your privacy notice.
- A new organisation starts with a 14-day trial. Owners choose a plan under Billing in Orbit. See Plans and monthly events.
