The Presence Score

How the Presence Score is worked out from six published factors, why it changes, and how to raise it.

Explanation2 min read

The Presence Score sums up, from 0 to 100, how a location shows up for people deciding where to go. Every organisation's score uses the same published formula, so you can always check where a number comes from. You see it on Overview for the whole organisation and on each location.

The six factors

Each factor scores from 0 to 1 and counts with its weight:

Rating
Weight
35%
What counts
The average rating over 12 months. Reviews from the last 90 days count double. While a location has few reviews, the average is pulled towards 4.0, so one review can't swing it.
Review volume
Weight
20%
What counts
Reviews in the last 90 days against the location's goal, 10 a month unless you change it.
Recent reviews
Weight
10%
What counts
Full marks while the latest review is under 14 days old, falling to nothing at 120 days.
Replies
Weight
20%
What counts
The share of reviews answered (70%), and how fast, with full marks for replies within a day (30%). Reviews from the last 24 hours don't count against you yet.
Sentiment
Weight
10%
What counts
Positive minus negative topic mentions over 90 days.
Listing
Weight
5%
What counts
Core listing fields filled in and matching Google. Until a listing is linked, its 5% is shared out across the other factors.

Facebook recommendations count as 5 stars when someone recommends you and 1 star when they don't.

Groups and the whole organisation

For a group of locations, or for the whole organisation, the score is the average of the locations, weighted by how many reviews each had in the last 90 days. A busy shop in Oslo counts for more than a rental point that sees a review a month.

Why it changed

Presence Orbit keeps a snapshot of every location's score each day. Under the score you see the change since last week and since 30 days ago, with the reasons in plain words, for example:

  • +4 replies: 92% of reviews are answered, typically within 9 hours
  • −3 review volume: 14 reviews in the last 90 days against a goal of 30

Raising the score

  • Answer every review, the good ones too, and within a day if you can.
  • Ask every customer for a review after their visit. See Requests.
  • Keep your Google listing complete and accept or reject Google's suggested edits. See Listings and posts.
