How membership works

Why Orbit decides who is in your organisation, and how satellites follow it.

Explanation1 min read

One source of truth

Who belongs to your organisation, and which satellites each person can open, is decided in Orbit. Satellites follow it on every request, so the lists never disagree.

Orbit › Members
Decides
Who is in the organisation, their organisation role, and their satellites.
A satellite
Decides
What each person can do there, such as their CMS role in each space.

How CMS Orbit follows

  • Give someone CMS Orbit here and they appear in the CMS's Members, starting as owner, administrator or viewer to match their role here.
  • Remove them here, or untick CMS Orbit, and every CMS role they had in your organisation goes straight away.
  • Remove someone under Members in the CMS and CMS Orbit is unticked for them here too. They stay in your organisation if they use other satellites.

Microsoft SSO

With Microsoft SSO connected, people can join by signing in, with the access their Microsoft app roles give. Editing someone here keeps the access you set, even if Microsoft changes later.

Accounts that never arrived

An invitation creates an account. If that person never signs in and loses their last organisation, the account is forgotten, so the platform does not fill up with people who never arrived.
