# Build the itinerary

> Describe the trip day by day, with where travellers sleep, what they eat, how they travel, how far they walk and where each day takes place.

The itinerary tells travellers what happens each day. It is shown on the trip's booking page and returned by the booking API, so your own website can show it too. Editors and Admins can change it.

## Add a day

Open the trip, then **Itinerary**. An empty itinerary offers **Add the first day**, or **Add 6 days** (the trip's number of days) to start with every day at once. After that, select **Add a day** at the bottom. An itinerary can have up to 120 days. Each day has:

| Field | What to put in |
| --- | --- |
| **Title** | A short heading, such as "Reinebringen at sunrise". Leave out "Day 1": days are numbered for you, and a number typed at the start is taken off. |
| **What happens** | Where travellers go, what they see and how hard the day is, in a few sentences. |
| **Kind of day** | Arrival, Travel, Activity, Exploring, Rest, Free day or Departure, or a kind your organisation added, such as "Summit day". Select the chosen one again to clear it. |
| **Where** | Where the day takes place. Search for a place, such as Reine, and press Enter or select the search button, then choose from the list. You can also click the map to put the day there, and drag the pin to move it. **Edit coordinates** shows the latitude and longitude if you want to type them, and **Clear** takes the day off the map. When you pick a place, you can use its name as the day's title. |
| **Distance** | How far travellers walk, cycle or paddle, in kilometres. |
| **Distance and climb** | The same in your own words, such as "6 km, 450 m up", shown next to the day on your website. Leave it empty to show the distance. |
| **Place to stay** | A place from your library, such as "Reine Rorbuer", **Write it in** for somewhere you don't keep in the library, **Add a new place to the library** straight from the day, or **No overnight stay**. See [Guides and places to stay](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/travel/everyone/guides-and-places/). |
| **Meals included** | Select each meal that is included, such as breakfast and dinner, or a meal your organisation added, such as "Packed lunch". A tick shows which ones are on. |
| **Travel on this day** | How travellers get from place to place, one leg at a time, such as a flight, then a ferry, then a bus. See [Travel on a day](#travel-on-a-day). |
| **Image** | One picture for the day, shown with it on the trip page, with a short description. |

Days are shown in the order you put them in, numbered from day 1. Drag a day by its handle to move it. **Expand all** and **Collapse all** open or close every day. They don't carry dates, so the same itinerary works for every departure.

## Travel on a day

Under **Travel on this day**, select **Add travel** and choose how travellers go: Flight, Train, Bus, Ferry, Boat, Car, Transfer, Walk or Other. Add a leg for each part of the journey, in the order travellers take them. For example, the first day of a Lofoten trip could be a flight from Oslo to Bodø, the ferry from Bodø to Moskenes and a bus on to Hamnøy. A new leg starts where the one before it ends.

Select a leg to open it. Each leg has:

| Field | What to put in |
| --- | --- |
| **How** | The way of travelling. Change it at any time. |
| **From** and **To** | For a flight, the airports, found by city, airport name or three-letter code, such as OSL. For anything else, the place names, such as Bodø and Moskenes. Places you've already used in the trip are suggested as you type. |
| **Airline** or **Operator** | Who runs it, such as SAS or Torghatten Nord. |
| **Flight number**, **Train number** or **Route** | Such as SK 4114. Not asked for boats, cars, transfers and walks. |
| **Departs** and **Arrives** | Local times, such as 07:15 and 08:40. Leave them empty when times change between departures. |
| **Takes** | How long it takes, such as "3 h 15 min", "3:15" or "195". Without it, the time between departure and arrival is used. |
| **Note** | Anything travellers should know, such as "Your guide meets you off the ferry". |

A closed leg shows a short summary, such as "OSL → BOO · SK 4114 · 07:15–08:40" or "Bodø → Moskenes · 3 h 15 min". Drag a leg by its handle to change the order, or select the bin to remove it. A day can have up to 12 legs.

The booking page shows the legs as a small timeline under each day, with an icon for each way of travelling and the times or how long it takes, in the traveller's language. When you translate the trip, translate the places, operators and notes. How travellers go, airport codes, numbers and times are the same in every language.

## Add a kind of day

If none of the kinds fits, such as a day out on the fjord, select **Add a kind** under **Kind of day**. Under **New kind of day**, give it a **Name**, such as "Boat day", choose an icon and select **Add**. It is saved for your whole organisation straight away and chosen for the day, so every trip can use it from then on. If a kind with that name already exists, it is chosen instead.

The booking page shows the kind with its icon under each day. Rename, hide or reorder kinds, and translate their names, in [Booking settings](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/travel/everyone/booking-settings/).

## Add a meal

If a meal isn't in the list, such as a packed lunch on the trail or afternoon tea at the lodge, select **Add a meal** under **Meals included**. Type its name and select **Add**, or press Enter. It is saved for your whole organisation straight away and ticked for the day, so every trip can use it from then on. If a meal with that name already exists, it is ticked instead.

The booking page lists the meals under each day, in the traveller's language. Rename, hide or reorder meals, and translate their names, in [Booking settings](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/travel/everyone/booking-settings/).

## The route map

The **Route** at the top shows every day with a place on a map, numbered in day order and joined by a dashed line. Zoom in and out, or select **Show the whole route** to see all of it again. Select a stop on the map, or a day in the list next to it, to open that day. The list shows which days are on the map and which still need a place.

## Places from the library

When a day uses a place from your library, the booking page shows its name, location, star rating and website. Change the place in the library and every trip that uses it shows the change.

## How many days

The itinerary can have more or fewer days than the trip's number of days. When it has fewer, a note offers to add the missing days, such as **Add 2 days**. When it has more, a note reminds you to change the number of days under **Details** if the trip got longer. The number of days under **Details** is what travellers see in lists, such as "6 days".
