# Destinations

> Give every country your trips visit its own page, with built-in facts, a map, live weather and exchange rates, and your own travel guide.

**Destinations** gathers the countries your trips visit, grouped by continent. You don't add them by hand: when a trip lists Norway under **Where** in its details, Norway shows up here, with the number of trips that go there. Editors and Admins can write and publish destinations; Viewers can look at them.

To write about a country before any trip goes there, choose **Add a country** and pick it under **Which country?**.

Each country shows its state: **Facts only** until you write something, then **Draft**, and **Published** once you publish it. The ring on each country shows how much of it you've written.

## Built-in facts

Every country comes with its facts filled in, so there's nothing to type:

- Official name, continent and capital
- Languages, currency and calling code
- Which side of the road people drive on
- The local time zone, taken from the capital

Change a fact only if you want to say it differently: choose **Change** next to it and type your own. The built-in value stays below the field, and **Use the built-in value** puts it back. **Reset to the built-in facts** clears all your changes at once.

## Live facts

The country page also shows facts that change by themselves:

- **Local time**, ticking in the capital's time zone
- **Weather in the capital**, from MET Norway, refreshed when MET Norway publishes a new forecast
- **Exchange rate** between your currency from [Booking settings](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/travel/everyone/booking-settings/) and the country's currency, from the European Central Bank's daily reference rates. Some currencies aren't in the bank's list, such as the Nepalese rupee, and then the page says no rate is available.

## Write your own

Open a country to add what only you know, on its **Details** tab:

- **Heading:** the big line at the top of the page on your website. Leave it empty to use the country's name.
- **Tagline:** one line for lists and the top of the page, such as Fjords, islands and the midnight sun
- **Introduction** and a **Travel guide**, with headings such as Getting around or Food to try
- **Images:** up to 30. The first is the cover, the second is pinned on the map
- **Practical notes:** **When to go**, **Entry and visas**, **Recommended vaccines** and **Religion**
- **Search engines:** the title and description for search results

Select **Save changes** when you're done. Use the **Preview** tab to see the facts block with your changes, the map and live weather.

Each continent has an introduction of its own: choose **Introduction** next to the continent's name. Its page works like a country page, with a tagline, an introduction and search engine text, and its **Preview** tab shows the continent page with the countries that show on it. A country shows there once it has a published trip or you publish its own page. Until you write something, a continent is marked **Not written**.

## In other languages

The built-in facts come in English, Norwegian and German. Your own text can be in any language your organisation offers: choose a language next to the country's name, write the translation with your main language's text shown under each field, and save. **Translate everything missing** fills the empty fields with machine translation when it's set up. The map, images, status and built-in facts are the same in every language. See [Languages](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/travel/everyone/languages/).

## On the booking site

Your booking site has a **Destinations** page with every continent and country your public trips visit. Each country page shows a map with the country highlighted, the facts, its trips and, once you publish the country, your own text and photos.

Facts and trips show straight away. Your text stays private until you choose **Publish**, and **Unpublish** takes it off again without losing it. Nothing is deleted.

## Where the facts come from

- Country facts: REST Countries (restcountries.com), MPL-2.0, and the IANA time zone database, public domain
- Map: Natural Earth, public domain, through the world-atlas package
- Weather: MET Norway (api.met.no), CC BY 4.0. Pages that show the weather say "Weather data from MET Norway".
- Exchange rates: the European Central Bank's euro reference rates
