# Create a trip

> Add a trip with its description, images and facts, choose who can see it and how people book, then publish it.

A trip is what you sell, such as the **Lofoten ridge walk**: six days on the ridges of Lofoten with a cabin every night. Its dates are [departures](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/travel/everyone/departures-and-places/), and its prices, extras and payment plan sit on the trip. Editors and Admins can add and change trips.

## Find a trip

**Trips** shows every trip as cards or as a list. Filter by **All**, **Drafts**, **Published** or **Archived**, search by name, narrow by **Country** or **Activity**, and sort by **Last changed**, **Next departure**, **Name** or **Lowest price**.

## Add a trip

1. Open **Trips** and select **New trip**, or choose **New trip** in the trip menu at the top of the sidebar.
2. Under **Start from**, choose **A blank trip**, or **A copy of another trip** to keep everything except its departures and bookings, such as its prices, payment plan, itinerary and booking form. Then pick the trip under **Copy**.
3. Give it a **Name** travellers will recognise, such as **Lofoten ridge walk**. While the trip is a draft, its **Address** on your booking pages follows the name, such as `lofoten-ridge-walk`. Type your own address under **Details** to stop it following. If you change the address of a published trip, the old one keeps working: the booking site and your website send visitors on to the new address, so shared links and search results still find the trip.
4. Choose the **Countries**, with the main one first, and the number of **Days**, from 1 to 365. The currency follows the main country, such as NOK for Norway, until you choose another. It becomes the trip's main currency. You can sell the trip in other currencies too, with their own prices, from **Prices & extras**. See [Prices, extras and payment plans](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/travel/everyone/prices-extras-and-payment-plans/).
5. Select **Create trip** (or **Create the copy**). It starts as a draft, which nobody outside your team can see.

## Fill in the details

The trip opens on **Details**. The other tabs are **Prices & extras**, **Payment plan & terms**, **Itinerary**, **Booking form** and **Departures**. Changes wait until you save them. Under **Details**:

- **Summary:** one or two sentences for trip lists and search results, up to 600 characters, such as "Six days on the sharp green ridges of Lofoten, sleeping in red fishing cabins."
- **Badge:** an optional short label on the trip card, up to 40 characters, such as Guest favourite or New. Leave places left out: websites show "2 places left" by themselves from the live departures.
- **Description:** the full story of the trip, with headings, lists and links if you like.
- **Highlights**, **Included** and **Not included:** one line each (up to 60 lines for Included and Not included), such as "Five nights in rorbu cabins" or "Flights to Bodø". Press Enter for the next line, paste a list to add several at once, and drag lines to change the order.
- **Where:** the countries, with the main one first, and the areas the trip visits, such as **Lofoten** and **Reine**. A trip can have up to 20 areas. Type one and press Enter to add it, or pick one you used on another trip. When you change the main country, Travel Orbit offers to switch the trip to that country's currency, as long as nobody has booked yet.
- **What:** the activities and tags, the category, the difficulty (**Easy**, **Moderate** or **Challenging**), the number of days and the group size. Only your team sees tags; activities and the category are used for filters on the booking pages. The difficulty isn't shown until you choose one. **Days** decides when new departures end. Click into **Activities** or **Tags** to see suggestions, including ones you used before and common tags such as **small group** or **guaranteed**. To add something new, type it and press Enter: the list shows **Add** with what you typed. For the group size, fill in **Smallest group** and **Largest group**, or leave one empty. If the itinerary has a different number of days, you can take its number with one click.
- **Images:** select **Upload** or drop photos on the page (JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 15 MB each), pick them with **Choose from media**, or add one by its address with **Link**. A trip holds up to 40 images. Photos are resized for the web and kept in [Media](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/travel/everyone/media/). Drag to change the order: the first is the cover. Give each one a short description for people who can't see it.
- **Guides:** who leads the trip, from your [guides](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/travel/everyone/guides-and-places/).
- **Reviews and brochure:** an **Average rating** from 0 to 5 and the **Number of reviews**, from reviews you collect elsewhere, and a link to a PDF **Brochure**.

The trip's own booking terms are on **Payment plan & terms**. See [Prices, extras and payment plans](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/travel/everyone/prices-extras-and-payment-plans/).

## In other languages

When your organisation offers more than one language, the language menu next to the trip's name switches every tab to that language's text, such as Norwegian, and shows how much of each language is translated. Write the translation in each field, with your main language's text shown under it, and save. Prices, dates and other things that are the same in every language are read-only there. See [Languages](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/travel/everyone/languages/).

## Who can see it

| Visibility | Who sees it |
| --- | --- |
| **Public** | Everyone. It is listed on your booking pages and in the booking API's list of trips. |
| **Unlisted** | Only people with the link. It isn't listed on your booking pages or in the booking API's list of trips, but anyone with the address can book. |
| **Private** | An invitation for one client or group, such as a school or a company. Like Unlisted, it opens only from its link and isn't listed anywhere. Write who it is for under **Invitation for**, such as Bergen Climbing Club: the trip page then says "A private trip for Bergen Climbing Club" above the trip's name. To keep a trip from everyone while you plan it, leave it as a draft. |

## How people book

| Booking | What happens |
| --- | --- |
| **Book straight away** | Travellers choose a departure, pay the first amount and are booked. |
| **Ask to book** | Travellers send a request without paying. You confirm it, and they pay from the traveller portal. See [Bookings](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/travel/everyone/bookings/). |
| **Bookings closed** | The trip stays visible, but nobody can book it. |

Without a working Stripe connection, every booking arrives as a request.

## Publish

Select **Publish** once the trip has at least one price. It then appears on your booking pages, and **View on booking site** opens its page. **Unpublish** makes it a draft again and keeps everything as it was; bookings already made stay. Travellers can only book departures, so add at least one under **Departures**.

## Copy, archive or move to the bin

These are in the **More actions** menu next to **Publish**.

- **Duplicate** makes a draft copy named after the trip with "(copy)" at the end. It keeps the details, prices, extras, plan, itinerary and booking form, but no departures or bookings. It is a quick way to start next year's version.
- **Archive** takes a trip off the booking pages and out of the trip menu, but keeps it and its bookings for your records. **Trips** lists it under **Archived**, and you can publish it again later.
- **Move to bin** takes a trip off the booking pages and the list of trips. A trip with bookings that are confirmed, requested or in checkout can't go in the bin: archive it instead. Restore it from the [bin](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/travel/everyone/bin/), and it comes back as a draft.

## Search engines and sharing

Under **Details**, **Search engines and sharing** sets the title and description shown in search results and when someone shares the trip's page on your website. The title can be up to 70 characters and the description up to 200. Leave them empty to use the trip's name and summary. The first photo is the share image.
