# Set up goals

> Say what counts as success on a site, such as reaching a thank-you page or sending a form, and see how often visits get there.

A goal says what counts as success. Insights Orbit then shows how many visits got there, the share of all visits that did (the conversion rate), and which sources and pages brought them. Editors and Admins can add goals.

## Add a goal

1. Open the site, then **Goals**.
2. Select **Add a goal** and give it a name people will understand, such as **Contact form sent**.
3. Choose what a visit has to do:
   - **Reaches a page:** give the page's path, such as `/thank-you`. **Is exactly** counts only that page; **Starts with** counts every page under it, such as `/contact/sent` for `/contact`. **Is exactly** compares the whole path, so `/thank-you` and `/thank-you/` are different pages: copy the path as **Pages** lists it.
   - **Sends an event:** give the event's name as your website sends it, such as `Form sent`. To count only some of them, add a detail and its value, such as `plan` and `growth`. Leave the value empty to count every event that has the detail.
4. Optionally give each completion a value, such as €25 for a lead. Goal values come with the Growth plan.
5. Select **Add goal**.

A goal looks back: it shows completions from before you added it, for as long as your plan keeps data. Each visit counts once, however many times it gets there.

## Read a goal

Open a goal to see its completions and conversion rate, compared with the period before, and two tables:

- **By source:** which sources brought visits that completed it. A small source can convert better than a big one.
- **By entry page:** the page completing visits started on.

## Change or delete a goal

Open the goal and select **Edit** or **Delete**. Changing a goal changes its whole history. Deleting moves it to the bin, where it can be restored. See [Restore something deleted](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/insights/everyone/bin-and-restore/).

## Values and revenue

On Growth and up, goals show what their completions were worth:

- A goal with a **fixed value** counts that value for each completion.
- An event goal without one adds up the revenue the website sent with the event. See [Send your own events](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/insights/developers/send-events/).

Values are added up per currency and never converted. The site's main currency comes first, and other currencies are listed under it. Open a goal to see its value by source and by entry page.

Your plan sets how many goals the organisation can have across all its sites: 10 on Starter and 50 on Growth.
