# Read events

> See the things people did on a site besides opening pages, such as sending a form or booking a trip, where each comes from, and the details sent with it.

An event is something a visitor did on a page, such as sending the contact form, downloading the Lofoten packing list or booking a trip. Page views are counted on their own, under **Pages**.

## The events list

Open the site, then **Events**. For the period you chose, each event shows:

- **Times:** how often it was sent
- **Per day:** on wide screens, a small line of how often it was sent each day, or each hour for **Today**
- **Visitors** and **Visits:** how many people and visits sent it at least once
- **Sent by:** where it comes from

| Sent by | Means |
| --- | --- |
| **Automatic** | Counted without code: **Outbound link**, **File download**, **Form sent**, **Scroll depth** and **404**. Admins can switch each off under **Site settings**. |
| **Label** | A click on a button or link someone named in labelling mode. See [Label buttons and links](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/insights/everyone/labelled-events/). |
| **Your website** | Sent by your website's own code, your servers or your other Orbit satellites, such as **Trip booked**. See [Send your own events](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/insights/developers/send-events/). |

Filters, segments and the period apply as on every report. When a label hasn't been clicked for a week or more, a note above the list says so, with a link to **Labels**.

## One event in detail

Select an event to see a chart of how often it was sent over the period, with the period before when you compare, and its **Details**: the extra facts sent with it, such as the trip someone booked or how far they scrolled. Choose a detail to see how often each value came up and how many visitors sent it. Values are compared as text, so 49 and "49" are the same. On Growth and up, values of events sent with revenue also show the **Revenue**.

An event sent without details says so. To break it down, your developers add details when they send it.

## Campaigns from CMS Orbit

When the site follows a CMS Orbit website, banners and popups send **Banner viewed**, **Banner clicked**, **Popup viewed** and **Popup clicked**, with the campaign's tracking label. Campaigns with more than one variant are compared side by side on **Events**. See [Use with CMS Orbit](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/insights/everyone/cms-orbit/).

## Use an event

- Make it a [goal](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/insights/everyone/goals/) with **Sends an event**, to see how many visits completed it and what brought them.
- Use it as a step in a [funnel](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/insights/everyone/funnels-and-journeys/), or see the most common [journeys](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/insights/everyone/funnels-and-journeys/) to and from it.
- Pin the list to a [dashboard](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/insights/everyone/dashboards/), or download it as a CSV file with the button under it.
