# The API playground

> Read your sites' raw events through REST and GraphQL from your browser, see the JSON, and copy the request as curl or JavaScript.

The **API playground** runs Insights Orbit's [raw event API](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/insights/developers/raw-event-api/) and [GraphQL](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/insights/developers/graphql/) from your browser, the way your data tools do. Open **API playground** under **Developers** in the sidebar; Admins see it. It works like the playground in CMS Orbit and the other Orbit apps.

1. Choose **Add a key** at the top and paste a key that reads events, starting with `ins_live_`. It stays in this browser only.
2. Choose a site at the top, such as Northwilds. Every request and query asks for its events.
3. Choose **REST** or **GraphQL** at the top left.
4. With REST, choose **Raw events** on the left and fill in the period, such as `from` 2026-10-01 and `to` 2026-10-02. Without them, you get the last 24 hours.
5. Press **Run**, or ⌘ and Enter. The answer shows on the right with its status, time and size.

Reading raw events comes with the Growth plan. Before that, requests answer `403`.

## GraphQL

With **GraphQL**, the left side shows the schema: the `events` query with its arguments and fields. Tick fields to add them to the query, or write the query yourself. The playground starts with a query for the chosen site. Add variables under **Variables**.

## What runs here

Only readings run. **Send events** is described and marked with a lock, since it adds real events to your reports, goals and monthly events. Send those from your server, as the [server API](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/insights/developers/server-api/) article shows.

## Taking a request with you

Under the request, open **curl** or **JavaScript** to copy the same request for a terminal or your own code. They use the address your tools call, such as `https://api.bifrostorbit.com/insights/v1/events`.
