# Volume prices and quantity rules

> Lower the price when someone buys more, and set the least, the most and the pack size for each product or price list.

Volume prices take a percentage off when a shopper buys more of a product, such as 10% off from 6 pairs of socks. Quantity rules decide how many go in one order: at least 2, at most 24, or in packs of 6. Editors and Admins set them on the product, under **Volume prices and quantities**, and on price lists.

## Volume tiers on a product

1. Open the product and go to **Volume prices and quantities**.
2. Select **Add a tier** and set **From** how many items and the **% off**, such as from 6 items, 10% off, and from 12 items, 15% off.
3. With several variants, keep **The same for every variant** on, or switch it off and choose a variant to give it its own tiers.
4. Select **Save pricing**.

A tier counts every unit of the product in the cart, whatever the variant. Six pairs of Ullvik socks in mixed sizes reach the tier of 6. The highest tier reached applies to all of them.

Shoppers see the tiers on the product page, such as "6 or more: 135.00 kr each", and the cart shows the lower price on each line.

## Quantity rules

Under **Quantity per order**:

| Rule | Means |
| --- | --- |
| **At least** | The fewest a shopper can buy, such as 2. |
| **At most** | The most in one order, such as 4 of a limited jacket. Leave it empty for no limit. |
| **In packs of** | Only in multiples, such as gas canisters in sixes. |

The product page starts at the least and steps by the pack size. When a cart doesn't fit the rule, for example after a change through the API, it says why, such as "Gas canister is sold in multiples of 6", and checkout waits until the quantity is right.

## On a price list

A price list can have tiers and a quantity rule of its own. Open it under **Price lists**:

- **Volume tiers** come off the price the company already pays. A price list with its own tiers replaces the product's for its companies; without any, they get the product's tiers.
- **Quantity per order** applies to every product, such as trade orders of at least 10. A product's own rule still applies, and the stricter one wins: the higher least, the lower most, and the product's pack size.

## How it adds up

Commerce Orbit always works the price out in this order:

1. The shop's price, or the company's price list price, or the customer's MAM account price.
2. The volume tier.
3. Discount codes and automatic offers, by priority. See [Discounts](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/commerce/everyone/discount-codes/).
4. Shipping and VAT.
5. Gift cards, as a way to pay. See [Gift cards](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/commerce/everyone/gift-cards/).

A price from the customer's MAM account is the agreed price, so volume tiers don't change it.
