# Move stock between locations

> Create a transfer, send it so the stock leaves one location, and receive it in full or in parts at the other. How transfers work with MAM.

A transfer moves stock from one of your locations to another, for example ten Tind 2 tents from the warehouse to the Bergen shop before the weekend. Editors and Admins can make transfers.

## Create and send a transfer

1. Open **Transfers** under **Catalogue** and select **New transfer**.
2. Choose where the stock comes from and where it goes.
3. Add products. Each line shows how many are at the first location now.
4. Add an expected date and a note if you like, and select **Create transfer**.

The transfer is now a draft: nothing has moved, and you can still change it. When the stock leaves, select **Send**. Sending takes the stock out of the first location straight away, so nobody sells it twice while it is on the way. If the location doesn't have enough, Commerce Orbit says which items are short.

## Receive a transfer

When the stock arrives, open the transfer and select **Receive**. Count what came, and select **Book in**. The stock goes into the second location.

If only part has come, book in what you have. The transfer shows **Partly received**, with what is still on the way, and you can receive the rest later.

## Cancel a transfer

Select **Cancel** on a draft or a transfer on the way. Anything that hasn't been received goes back into stock where it came from.

## MAM locations

When the [MAM integration](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/commerce/everyone/mam-integration/) syncs stock, MAM decides the numbers at the locations it manages: those with a MAM branch code, or the default location when no location has one. A transfer can't take stock out of, or book stock into, such a location, because the next sync would overwrite it. Move the stock in MAM instead, and the sync brings the new numbers here. Commerce Orbit tells you when you choose such a location.

Every send, receipt and cancellation shows in the [stock history](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/commerce/everyone/stock-history/).
