# Write with AI

> Draft, improve, shorten or simplify text in any text field with AI, and describe images for alt text and captions, in the page's language and your organisation's tone of voice. You decide what is used.

Write with AI helps you draft and polish text without leaving the page. It works in text, long text and rich text fields, writes in the language of the page you are editing, and follows the writing guidelines your organisation sets.

## Write or rewrite a field

1. Choose the sparkle button next to the field's name.
2. Say what the text should do, such as "a short welcome for first-time visitors", or leave it empty.
3. Choose **Write**. When the field already has text, you can also choose **Improve**, **Shorten**, **Expand** or **Simplify**.
4. Read the result. Choose **Use this** or **Replace text** to put it in the field, or **Try again** for another version.

Nothing changes until you use the text, and it is then saved as a draft like any other change, so it still goes through review and publishing. Press ⌘ Enter in the request box to write straight away.

AI does not invent prices, dates, statistics, guarantees, legal or medical claims, or contact details. Where one is needed it writes a placeholder in square brackets, such as [price], for you to fill in. Fields that hold prices or promotions do not offer it, and approved claims still come from the claims library.

The button only appears once writing with AI is set up for the website. Writing with AI is part of the Growth and Enterprise plans; on Starter it shows a lock with the plan that includes it.

## Describe an image

In **Media**, open an image. Title, **Alt text** and **Caption** each have a sparkle button. AI looks at the image and writes the text in the language you are editing, so alt text describes what the picture really shows. Add a note if it should mention something, such as the setting, then choose **Use this** and **Save**.

Alt text is kept to 125 characters, the length screen readers handle well, and the media library counts as you type. It only describes what it can see. Names of people, places and brands are left as placeholders, such as [name], for you to fill in. The model must be able to read images: most current models from Anthropic, OpenAI and Mistral can, and on OpenRouter you can choose one that can.

## Write search titles and descriptions

In **SEO › Metadata**, choose **Write with AI** to write titles and descriptions for many pages at once, from each page's content and within the lengths search engines show. You review every suggestion before saving. See [Edit search titles and descriptions](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/cms/editors/seo-metadata/).

## Set it up

Administrators add the organisation's AI key, choose a model, write the website's guidelines and decide where editors see it, under **Configuration › AI writing**. See [Set up writing with AI](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/cms/editors/set-up-ai-writing/).
