# Change site settings

> Edit what the whole website shares, such as contact details, the footer text and the buttons in the header.

Site settings hold what every page of the website uses: contact details, the footer text, the buttons in the header. A notice across the top of the website is a banner under **Marketing › Banners**, where you can schedule it and choose its pages. Change them once and the whole website follows. Open them under **Site settings** in the sidebar, above **Media**.

## Change a setting

1. Choose a settings page in the list. It opens in a panel on the right, so you stay on the list.
2. Change what you need. In a list such as the header's buttons, choose **Add** to add one, open one to change it, use the arrows to change the order, or remove it.
3. Choose **Save**, then **Publish**, at the bottom of the panel, when it should reach the website. Press Esc or click outside to close the panel; unsaved changes are saved first. To publish several at once, tick them in the list and choose **Publish**, or choose **Publish all** above the list for every settings page with changes. Settings pages that need approval are left out; send those for review from the page itself.

To see exactly what the website receives, open a settings page and choose **API response** (`{ }`).

The list shows when each settings page was last changed, by whom, and whether it is **Live** or has unpublished changes. Like pages, settings are kept separately for each environment, region and language, so pick the right one in the header first. A settings page that has not been set up for that region and language yet is created the first time you save it.

## Add your own settings page

Anyone who can change the schema can add one under **Schema › Content types**: choose **New content type** and make it a settings page. Give it the fields the website needs, such as a phone number, an email address or a list of buttons, and group them so each group becomes its own section. A developer then reads it on the website by its key. See [Field types](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/cms/developers/field-types/).
