# Set up writing with AI

> Add your organisation's AI key, choose a model, set the writing guidelines, and decide where on the website editors can write with AI.

Writing with AI is set up once for the organisation and switched on for each website under **Configuration › AI writing**. Changing the key needs permission to change the organisation; switching a website on or off and editing its guidelines needs permission to change the website. Every change is recorded in the audit trail.

Writing with AI is part of the Growth and Enterprise plans. On Starter the page shows it locked, with a link for an owner to upgrade under Billing in Orbit; on Enterprise it is included without a key of your own, for up to 5,000 requests a month.

## Add the organisation's key

1. Under **AI provider for the organisation**, choose **Anthropic**, **OpenAI**, **Mistral** or **OpenRouter**.
2. Paste an API key from that provider and choose **Check and save**. The key is checked with the provider, stored encrypted and never shown again.
3. Choose the **Model** to write with. The list shows the models your key can use; type in it to search.

OpenRouter gives one key for models from many providers. To describe images, choose a model that can read them; most current models from Anthropic, OpenAI and Mistral can.

The organisation's key is shared by all its websites. Text sent for writing goes to the provider you chose, under your organisation's own agreement with them. On Enterprise, writing with AI works without a key of your own; the page then says **Included in your plan**.

## Switch it on for a website

1. Under **This website**, switch on **Let editors write with AI**.
2. Add **Writing guidelines**: tone of voice, audience, spelling and words to avoid. They are sent with every request, for fields, images and search metadata.

## Choose where editors see it

Under **Where editors see it**, switch writing with AI on or off for:

- **Fields on pages and entries:** text, long text and rich text fields in the editor, Site settings and collections.
- **Image descriptions:** title, alt text and caption in the media library.
- **SEO metadata:** search titles and descriptions, one page at a time or in bulk.

Open **Choose fields** to switch it off for single fields, such as a legal notice that must never be rewritten. Fields are grouped by content type and component, and a group's switch turns all its fields on or off. Fields that hold prices or promotions never offer it.

## Included requests on Enterprise

On Enterprise, writing with the included provider covers 5,000 requests a month across the organisation. Each suggestion is one request, and a suggestion that has to be shortened to fit a field can take two. Under **Included in your plan** the page shows how many are used, for example "1,240 of 5,000 included AI requests this month on your Enterprise plan".

When they are used up, editors are told that the included requests are used for this month. The count starts again on the 1st. To keep writing before then, add the organisation's own key: requests with your own key are never counted against the included ones. On Growth, writing with AI always uses your own key and has no monthly limit from us.

## See how much it is used

The page shows how many requests the organisation made this month. **Library › Reports** shows how often people in this website wrote with AI each day, for fields, images and search metadata. See [Read the reports](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/cms/editors/reports/).

AI agents that connect over MCP are set up separately, under **AI agents**. See [Let an AI assistant draft content](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/cms/editors/ai-assistants/).
