# Edit search titles and descriptions

> Check and change how every page looks in search results, write titles and descriptions in bulk with AI, and leave warnings that are right for a page.

**SEO › Metadata** shows every page as it appears in search results: its title, address and description, with their lengths. Find a page by name or address, or narrow the list to pages without a description, pages whose title comes from the page name, or pages with issues.

## Change one page

1. Choose a page in the list.
2. Change its **Title** and **Description**. The counts show the length search engines display: titles up to 60 characters and descriptions up to 155.
3. Switch **Show in search engines** off to ask search engines to leave the page out.
The **Preview** below shows the result as search engines do on a computer: the whole description up to about 160 characters, cut at a word after that. The list keeps each description to two lines.
4. Choose **Save**. The change is saved as a draft until the page is published.

If your website adds an ending to every title, such as "· Acme Outdoors", the count includes it and the panel says so. Set the ending under **SEO › Settings**. An empty title uses the page name.

## Write them in bulk with AI

When writing with AI is set up, choose **Write with AI** above the list.

1. Choose the pages: those without a description, those whose title comes from the page name, those with issues, or every page.
2. Choose whether to write titles, descriptions or both. **Keep what people wrote** is on by default, so only empty ones are filled.
3. Add anything AI should keep in mind, such as a place name to mention, and choose **Write**.

Suggestions appear one by one as search results, with their lengths and what each one replaces. Untick any you do not want, or use **Deselect all**, then choose **Save**. They are saved as drafts until the pages are published. The sparkle buttons beside **Title** and **Description** in the page panel do the same for one page.

AI writes from each page's own content, stays within the lengths above and follows your website's writing guidelines. If you ask it to leave something out, it does. See [Write with AI](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/cms/editors/write-with-ai/).

## Leave a warning as it is

Some warnings are right for a page, such as a legal page that stays out of search but is linked from the footer. Under the warning, choose **This is intended**, say why, and choose **Leave as it is**. The warning shows crossed out with your reason, and it no longer counts towards the page's issues, the SEO score or the issue counts, here and on **SEO › Health**. **Put back** makes it count again.

## Edit many pages in a spreadsheet

**Export CSV** downloads every page's title and description. Change them in a spreadsheet and use **Import CSV** to bring them back; the import shows what will change before anything is saved.
