# Build a menu

> Add, nest and reorder menu items, link them to pages or addresses, and hide items for later.

Source: https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/cms/editors/navigation/

Open **Library › Navigation**. Each menu, such as the header or footer, is a tab.

## Add an item

1. Choose **Add item**.
2. In the side panel, pick what it links to: a page in the CMS, an address, or **No link** for a heading that only opens a submenu.
3. Give it a label. Optional: a description, a badge such as "New", and an icon name your website knows. The description's first line is the short text under the label; later lines can hold more detail, such as the text on a large card in a mega menu. Descriptions and icons are for richer menus, such as a mega menu that opens under a heading; a plain menu shows only the label.

## Arrange

- Drag an item by its handle to reorder it.
- Drag it sideways to put it inside the item above, or back out. Four levels at most.
- From the keyboard, the item's menu moves it up, down, in and out.
- **Expand all** and **Collapse all** help with long menus; search finds an item by its label.

## Hide an item

Switch an item off to keep it in the menu without the website showing it, for a page that is written but not announced yet.

## Save

Changes are kept until you choose **Save**. The bar at the bottom says when there are unsaved changes, and leaving the page asks first.

> **Tip:** A menu item pointing at a page that is not live shows up under [broken links](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/cms/editors/not-found-and-broken-links/).
