# Upload, crop and describe images

> Add files to the library, write alt text, crop for different sizes, and record consent for before-and-after photos.

## Upload

Open **Library › Media** and drag files in, or choose **Upload**. Folders keep things tidy; drag files between them.

Select files with the round tick in the corner of each one. With the keyboard, move between files with the arrow keys, **Home** and **End**, and press **Space** to select.

## Describe

Open a file to set, for each language:

- **Alt text:** what the image shows, for people who cannot see it and for search engines. Pages with images missing alt text cannot be published.
- **Title** and **caption:** shown where the website uses them.

When writing with AI is set up, the sparkle button next to each of them writes it for you from the image. See [Write with AI](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/cms/editors/write-with-ai/).

## Crop

Choose **Crop** to set the focal area and crops for different shapes, such as **Share 1.91:1** for share images. A warning shows when a crop is too small to look sharp as a full-width banner. To put an image on a page, see [Add images to a page](https://docs.bifrostorbit.com/cms/editors/images-in-pages/).

## Consent for before-and-after photos

Before-and-after images carry a consent reference, an approval status and any usage limits. An image without consent cannot be published on a page.

## Where it is used

A file's details list every page that uses it. Deleting a file moves it to the bin; pages that still use it show a warning.

## Storage

Each plan includes an amount of media storage, shared by every space in the organisation: 5 GB on Starter, 50 GB on Growth and no limit on Enterprise. The top of the media library shows how much is used, for example "1.2 GB of 5 GB used on your Starter plan".

An upload that needs more room than is left is refused, and the message says how much the file needs and how much is left. Once the storage is full, **Upload** is switched off. Files in the bin still count until the bin is emptied, and so does the original kept behind a cropped image. To make room, delete files you no longer need and empty the bin under **Bin**, or set the website to empty its bin automatically after 30, 60 or 90 days in its settings. Restoring a file from the bin needs no extra room. An owner can upgrade under Billing in Orbit for more.
